{mosads}The Fox News poll shows Obama’s ticket leading that of Mitt Romney nationally with 48 to 43 percent, above the margin of error. Nearly one in five Independent voters are still undecided, according to the poll.

Voters are more than twice as worried about the national debt than the possibility of a terrorist attack, according to the poll, making Obama’s lead on Romney over foreign policy less significant than a tie on economic issues.

Likely voters are evenly split between Obama and Romney when it comes to picking which one would do a better job “improving the economy and creating jobs,” with the poll showing 47 percent for Obama and 46 for Romney.

Fifty-two percent of voters disapprove of Obama on the economy, compared to 44 percent who approve. 

Voters are also split on whether Obama’s economic policies have helped or hurt the economy, with both opinions taking 38 percent and 21 percent saying they’ve made “no difference.”

Voters trust Obama much more than Romney on foreign affairs and terrorism, but pick Romney on cutting government spending.

The poll also attempted to gauge how many voters agree with Mitt Romney that “47 percent of the country is dependent” on the government and unable to “take personal responsibility,” a quote taken from a speech Romney gave at a private fundraiser back in May. According to the poll, 76 percent of likely voters think other Americans are are highly to somewhat dependent on the government, but only 31 percent would say the same of themselves. Sixty-seven percent would say they are “only slightly” or “not at all” dependent on the government.

Most voters were familiar with the recently released video footage of that private event, with only 26 percent not familiar. Obama’s campaign has used some of the footage, which was taped secretly, in new campaign ads attacking Romney as dismissive of half the country.

That poll, conducted Sept. 24-26, had a sampling error of plus or minus 3 points.
