Poll: Gingrich crushing the field in Florida with 50 percent

{mosads}Gingrich took 50 percent of the support, according to the poll, and leads the next closest candidate, Mitt Romney, by 31 points.

Romney took 19 percent, followed by Herman Cain with 10 percent, Jon Huntsman with 3 percent, Ron Paul and Rick Perry each with 2 percent, and Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann and Buddy Roemer with 1 percent each.

In the group’s October poll, which was released before allegations of sexual harassment and infidelity surfaced against Cain, the former Godfather’s Pizza executive led with 34 percent, followed by Romney at 28 percent and Gingrich at 11 percent.

Gingrich does even better with Florida voters who identify with the Tea Party, taking 54 percent compared to Romney’s 8 percent. He also leads among Florida Republicans who say they will definitely vote in the state’s primary, with 53 percent compared to Romney’s 18 percent.

Two polls released earlier this week also show Gingrich with a big lead in Florida. He leads Romney by 30 points in a Public Policy Poll and 24 points in a Florida Times-Union poll.

“I have not seen a lead this large, this late in a Republican presidential primary season since I have been polling,” InsiderAdvantage pollster Matt Towery told the Times-Union. “Newt Gingrich is winning nearly 50% of the independent vote, but more importantly, the Republican vote which makes up the vast majority of the Florida Republican primary.”

The American Research Group poll surveyed 600 likely Republican primary voters Nov. 27-30.
