Obama edges Romney by 52 to 46 percent, according to the Democratic-leaning pollster. Those numbers are in line with other recent polling of the state, which show Obama maintaining a three- to six-point lead.

Michigan has not been heavily contested by either campaign, though GOP outside groups have been running TV ads there for months and Ann Romney has stumped there a few times.

{mosads}In recent days, those GOP outside groups have ramped up their ad buys enough that Obama had to respond with ads of his own, and recent polls show the race has tightened there. Romney’s campaign has argued it is making a run at his native state, promising to send high-profile surrogates there in the final days of the campaign. But this poll and others suggest that their late push may not pay off.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) has a more substantial lead over her opponent, former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.). She’s up by 55 to 42 percent.

The automated poll of 700 likely voters was conducted from Nov. 1 through Nov. 3 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percent.
