Documentary director Michael Moore said on Thursday that Donald Trump is the front-runner for next year’s GOP presidential nomination because he amuses Americans.

“See, I think people love bat-shit crazy,” Moore said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “I think that’s just us loving entertainment.”

Moore added that Trump is letting voters see his real persona during appearances on the 2016 campaign trail.

“This is actually Trump,” he said. “This is not performance art.”

“We don’t really know what’s going to happen under President TrumpDonald John TrumpTrump conversation with foreign leader part of complaint that led to standoff between intel chief, Congress: report Pelosi: Lewandowski should have been held in contempt 'right then and there' Trump to withdraw FEMA chief nominee: report MORE,” the filmmaker added. “If I could just go inside Trump’s brain for just a couple hours and turn the hate button off.”

Moore also mocked Trump’s sharp rhetoric toward illegal immigrants.

“I think he’s certainly showed his love of immigrants,” he said, citing Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, who is Slovenian.

“I believe she’s from Slovenia, and a graduate from the University of Ljubljana, Mrs. Trump,” Moore added of Trump’s third spouse. “I think to have a president who is married to an immigrant is a wonderful thing.”

Moore is promoting “Where to Invade Next,” his new film about American military interventions abroad.

He argued that the federal government’s tendency is to accumulate more power for itself.

“The beast does not want to give back what the beast has been able to attain,” Moore said.

“There are dozens of things where Clinton made it worse than Reagan and then Bush made it worse than Clinton and then Obama let it get worse than under Bush,” he added. “Now [Obama’s] got a year and four months to try to roll some of that back.”
