"This is shocking rhetoric. It should be denounced by all seeking to lead this country," the Democratic presidential front-runner wrote on Twitter.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a GOP rival, slammed Trump over the issue earlier on Friday. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, a Democratic candidate, did as well.
Trump on Thursday evening doubled down on his support for establishing a database to monitor Muslims in the U.S. amid debate over allowing Syrian refugees into the country.
“I would certainly implement that,” Trump told NBC News, suggesting it "would stop people from coming in illegally."
