London mayor: Clinton presidency would inspire girls everywhere

Sadiq Khan, London’s first Muslim mayor, on Wednesday said a Hillary Clinton presidency would be an inspiration to women and girls around the world.

“Imagine the message it sends to my daughters and to the girls around the world that the president of the United States of America is a woman,” Khan told reporter Christiane Amanpour of CNN on Wednesday.

{mosads}“Not any woman, a woman with the gravitas, with the experience … she’ll be an inspiration. She’ll be an inspiration. I’m quite clear in my mind who I want to be the president of the USA.”

As he has done repeatedly in recent days, Khan also criticized presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, calling his views of Islam “ignorant.”

“My message to Donald Trump and his team is that your views of Islam are ignorant,” he said. “It is possible to be a Muslim and live in the West. It is possible to be a Muslim and love America.

“I have family members that live in America, and we have often been to America on holiday. My kids used to love Disneyland — I’m scared of some of the rides — but they used to love going to Disneyland.”

London elected Khan last Friday, making the son of Pakistani immigrants the first Muslim mayor of a major Western capital.
