Gingrich: It’s not Bill Clinton’s job to run the economy

Newt Gingrich on Monday mocked Hillary Clinton for suggesting that she would put her husband, former President Bill Clinton, in charge of the economy if she is elected president.
“I think Hillary’s in an impossible box,” the former House Speaker said on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.”
{mosads}“You can’t imagine Bill over there in the East Wing in the spouse’s quarters licking stamps and mailing envelopes,” Gingrich added. “So, what are you going to do with him?
“I suspect, given his track record with the Clinton slush fund, that she’s not really sure she can send him around the world. She’s going to give him an office and have him write the word ‘economy’ 600 times. This is all nonsense.”
Hillary Clinton on Sunday said that Bill Clinton would be “in charge of revitalizing the economy” in her potential administration.
Gingrich on Monday said that the former first lady does not understand the responsibilities of the presidency.
“The president of the United States has an actual job to create jobs, create wealth, create take home pay,” he said. “That’s Hillary’s job if she wants to be president. That’s not the first spouse’s job.”
Hillary Clinton has often touted her husband’s economic record, praising his administration for raising wages and creating jobs.
“I’ve told my husband he’s got to come out of retirement and be in charge of this, because, you know, he’s got more ideas a minute than anybody I know,” she said earlier this month in Ashland, Ky.
“Gotta put people back to work and make it happen. So we’re going to give it all we’ve got, absolute full-in 100 percent effort, because I’m worried we won’t recognize our country if we don’t do this.”
