"The RNC really wanted to do it, and I want to show good spirit," Trump told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

"Because I was very happy to continue to go along the way I was."

The business mogul has loaned his campaign at least $43 million during the primary and often boasts that he is self-funding his campaign, making him impervious to the influence of special interests.

The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee on Tuesday announced a partnership that will hold its first fundraising dinner in Los Angeles on Wednesday, charging participants $25,000 per plate. 

The campaign will also be holding its own smaller fundraiser in Albuquerque, N.M. on Tuesday. That event, first reported by the Washington Post, is expected to draw about two dozen attendees paying $10,000 each.
