Carson jokes his mother would have shot 'dishonest' reporters

Ben Carson joked Wednesday that his mother would have shot certain members of the media for their coverage of the 2016 presidential race.

"She probably would have taken a gun and gone out and shot some of the dishonest reporters," Carson said of his mother, Sonya, who has Alzheimer's disease, on the Brown and Scoop podcast.

The retired neurosurgeon said it's a good thing Sonya Carson is not cognizant of what is going on in the race "because my mother is really a fighter."

Carson said the "dishonest media" manipulates the public with biased reporting.

Carson often complained about the media before he ended his White House bid in March, but the Republican has said the attention helped his campaign.

Soon after dropping out, Carson endorsed presumptive GOP nominee Donald TrumpDonald TrumpChinese apps could face subpoenas, bans under Biden executive order: report Kim says North Korea needs to be 'prepared' for 'confrontation' with US Ex-Colorado GOP chair accused of stealing more than 0K from pro-Trump PAC MORE, who has a fraught relationship with the press himself.

Carson especially faced media scrutiny over claims in his book "Gifted Hands" that he was violent as a child.

"It's not particularly getting under my skin. Obviously, it's helping," Carson said in November.

"But I simply cannot sit still and watch unfairness. I am always going to call that out when I see it."
