A former CIA officer said Friday President Obama has lost control of the Middle East following attacks in France that left at least 84 dead.
“This is going to get very, very ugly,” Gary Bernsten said on Fox & Friends Friday.
“The president of the United States, as Newt Gingrich has stated, has failed in his responsibilities to defend the United States. He has lost control of the Middle East. It is in flames, and that is what he will leave when he leaves office.”
At least 84 people were killed when a man driving a heavy truck plowed through crowds that had gathered to celebrate Bastille Day in Nice, France. Police eventually shot and killed the man, who has since been identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhel, a 31-year-old Nice resident born in Tunisia.
Of those killed were two Americans identified by news outlets as Sean Copeland, 52, and his 11-year-old son Brodie.
Obama Thursday condemned the attacks and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“On behalf of the American people, I condemn in the strongest terms what appears to be a horrific terrorist attack,” he said in a statement. “We have offered any assistance that they may need to investigate this attack and bring those responsible to justice,” Obama said.
“We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack.”
