"There is no other candidate," Priebus said in an interview with The Associated Press. "That was one of the problems that this 'Never Trump' issue had last night. Who is the other candidate? What VP nominees are you vetting? We're voting next week — on Tuesday or Wednesday. What money are you raising? Where is this person?

"It's over," he added. "It was never there."

A group of anti-Trump delegates had attempted to push through a “conscience clause” amendment at a Rules Committee hearing last week to "unbind" delegates from the results of their states' primaries and caucuses but were easily defeated.

The leader of the anti-Trump effort, Colorado delegate Kendal Unruh, reportedly admitted defeat on Friday, abandoning the attempt to block Trump at the Republican National Convention this week in Cleveland.
