"Shooting deaths of police officers up 78% this year," Trump tweeted.

"We must restore law and order and protect our great law enforcement officers!"


Trump's tweet, which appears to be referencing a statistic from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's mid-year report on officer fatalities, was retweeted more than 13,000 times and liked by more than 39,000 users.

The GOP nominee often praises police and law enforcement on the campaign trail. He has also said he thinks officers in this country are treated "so unfairly."

On Wednesday, the GOP nominee slammed the Democratic Party for not addressing issues relating to police and law enforcement during its convention.
