MSNBC anchor Mika Brzezinski drew parallels between Melania Trump and the mother of a Muslim U.S. soldier who was killed while serving in Iraq.

“Melania Trump doesn't speak often,” Brzezinski noted on Sunday, tweeting about the wife of GOP presidential nominee Donald TrumpDonald John TrumpTrump to fundraise for 3 Republicans running for open seats: report Trump to nominate former Monsanto exec to top Interior position White House aides hadn’t heard of Trump's new tax cut: report MORE. “She is often very quiet next to her husband. I think she is great ... I would never criticize that.”

Khizr Khan and his wife, Ghazala Khan, appeared together on stage at the Democratic National Convention last week. Khizr Khan gave a speech blasting Trump for his rhetoric toward Muslims, while Ghazala Khan stood silently by his side.

Trump later suggested that she did not speak up because she was forbidden by her Muslim faith.

Ghazala Khan penned an op-ed on Sunday in The Washington Post, in which she said that she stayed silent at the convention because of her grief for her son.

“Walking onto the convention stage, with a huge picture of my son behind me, I could hardly control myself,” she said. “What mother could? Donald Trump has children whom he loves. Does he really need to wonder why I did not speak?”
