"I think the big question is: Can Donald go toe-to-toe with someone as formidable as Hillary Clinton? She's outworked him. She's out-campaigned him. We've run a much stronger campaign," Benenson said on John Catsimatidis's radio show, "The Cats Roundtable," on Sunday.

He also pointed out that Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has never debated anyone one on one.

"This is going to be one on one. There's going to be no dodging or ducking, none of the stuff that worked for him in the primaries," he said.

The first presidential debate is Sept. 26 in Hempstead, N.Y.

Benenson also pointed to Trump's recent campaign shake-up as proof that he's still struggling to adjust to the general election.

Trump's campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, resigned Friday after the Republican presidential nominee brought on two new campaign leaders.

"This is a guy — he just had another campaign shake-up. He had another resignation. He's firing people. He's on his third campaign manager," Benenson said.
