Priebus: Fox showing Trump’s ‘worst’ polls

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus accused Fox News of only showing the “worst” polls for Donald Trump in a segment on Friday.

When Fox anchor Melissa Francis noted Priebus’s prediction that Trump would catch Hillary Clinton at the polls by around Labor Day, Priebus pushed back.

{mosads}He questioned why the network’s graphic used numbers from a head-to-head matchup between Trump (R) and Clinton (D), which showed the GOP nominee down by 6, instead of the four-way race with Green Party nominee Jill Stein and Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, which was closer.

“Wait a second, the Fox News poll shows he was down by 3 in a four-way race,” Priebus said.

“You want to choose the worst that’s available. The Fox News poll showed him down by 3, Reuters showed it even, L.A. Times had him 2 points up.”

Priebus went on to argue that polls have been trending in Trump’s favor recently.

“He’s either down by a couple, or even. It’s exactly where we thought this thing was going,” Priebus said.

“I don’t think anyone can deny the polls are narrowing, and I think the momentum is on his side.”

While Clinton opened up a significant lead nationally and in battleground states in the weeks after the parties’ presidential nominating conventions, the gap has been closing over the past few days.

Clinton currently sits 4 points ahead of Trump in the RealClearPolitics average of the head-to-head match-up. That lead shrinks to 3 points when all four candidates are included.
