"He will build that wall, and he's been consistent on that since day one of his candidacy, and he will have Mexico pay for it," Kellyanne Conway said on ABC's "This Week." 

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto told Trump last week in a meeting between the two that Mexico would not pay for the wall. 

"At the start of the conversation with Donald Trump I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall," Peña Nieto wrote on Twitter after the meeting.

"From there, the conversation addressed other subjects and developed in a respectful manner."

Trump shot back at a rally in Phoenix, Ariz., later that day, saying, "They don't know it yet, but they're going to pay for it."
