According to the report, Vice had been told that its request for press credentials to the Republican presidential nominee's event — he addressed a group of people whose loved ones were killed by immigrants in the country illegally — was “pending.” Thompson said he entered the Omni Hotel to ask the campaign about the status of his credentials.
The hotel manager reportedly told Thompson to leave and threatened to have him arrested if he refused. Thompson said he was arrested two minutes later without warning.
Thompson is currently being held at Houston Central Jail.
In a statement to Politico, the Trump campaign said it "was not involved in this incident or aware of the details surrounding it."
“The event organizers were responsible for today's media presence and requested the campaign limit attendance to the traveling pool," the campaign said. "The campaign had no staff presence at check-in for guests or media and therefore has no further knowledge of what occurred.”
