A new ad for independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin uses an offensive voicemail tirade from a Donald TrumpDonald TrumpRobert Gates says 'extreme polarization' is the greatest threat to US democracy Cassidy says he won't vote for Trump if he runs in 2024 Schiff says holding Bannon in criminal contempt 'a way of getting people's attention' MORE supporter against the Republican presidential nominee.
“You frothing libtard piece of s--t, Islamic dog,” a man named “Alan” says in a voicemail left for Rina Shah, McMullin’s communications director.
“Vote for the pathological, lying criminal, you f---ing piece of s--t and get out of our country,” the man says in the clip, released Wednesday. "While you’re at it, go back and get f---ed by your dirt bag, Islamic terror scum friends, slut.”
McMullin’s ad says Shah received the spiteful message after appearing on Fox News last Friday.
“Donald Trump fans weren’t happy,” the commercial’s text says of her appearance. " 'Alan' is a preview of Donald Trump’s America. We can do better.”
Shah on Wednesday told BuzzFeed that she was born in West Virginia and does not practice Islam.
“I could send you, I’m not kidding, hundreds of emails I’ve received,” she said of attacks from Trump’s fans. "You know, ‘You’re a Muslim.' 'You’re a c--t.' I get a lot of, 'Go back to your country.' "
Shah said the animosity frightens her about the possibility of a future Trump presidency.
“It’s just hard to imagine a scenario where it would be good for us if he were to win,” she said of Trump.
“And when I say ‘us,’ I mean women, young people, people of color, because [Trump] only seems to look out for one type. If one of his supporters were to punch me at a rally, would he even blink an eye? I don’t think so.”
BuzzFeed reached the man in the ad during a phone call late Tuesday, in which he claimed his full name is Alan Pryce.
“I stand by every word of it,” he said. "Clearly, [Shah’s] an anti-American supporter of a pathological, lying criminal.
“Anyone who supports [Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonTrump criticizes Justice for restoring McCabe's benefits Biden sends 'best wishes' to Clinton following hospitalization The Hill's Morning Report - Presented by Altria - Jan. 6 panel flexes its muscle MORE], either actively or tacitly, is anti-American scum in my mind,” Pryce added, referencing the Democratic presidential nominee.
McMullin, a CIA veteran, launched his long-shot bid for the presidency last month as an alternative to Clinton and Trump.
