Mourdock email blames ‘liberal media’ for his Senate loss

“We fought back and invested heavily in a last-minute push to combat the slew of false accusations Democrats and the liberal media churned up to distract voters.”

Mourdock’s campaign was damaged by his controversial remarks over rape and abortion during an October debate and the ensuing media firestorm, though he’d already been struggling because of earlier comments opposing bipartisanship. He also failed to win over independents and centrist Republicans who had warm feelings toward the man he beat in the GOP primary, outgoing Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.). Donnelly won the race in the conservative state by 50 percent to 44.
