Sen. Lincoln trails big in Arkansas
A new Rasmussen poll out Thursday shows Rep. John Boozman (R-Ark.) with a nearly two-to-one edge over Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln in the Arkansas Senate race.
Boozman is ahead 61 percent to 32 percent. Four percent prefer another candidate, while just 3 percent remain undecided. The poll found unaffiliated voters favor Boozman 79-15.
Amid a financial onslaught from organized labor and other liberal interests, which spent some $10 million in an attempt to oust her, Lincoln survived a runoff with Arkansas Lt. Gov. Bill Halter last week.
The general election numbers are daunting, but it’s early and Lincoln has already surprised the political world once this cycle. The real question is whether Lincoln’s bid will get a financial assist from the national party. Last week, pollster Tom Jensen wrote off Lincoln’s reelection race, penning a memo that urged national Democrats to spend their cash elsewhere.
