Jeb Bush to headline rally for Roberts

Greg Nash

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will be the latest national GOP figure to come to Sen. Pat Roberts’s (R-Kan.) rescue when he heads to the state for a rally next week.

The Hill has learned Bush will appear at a grassroots rally and headline a fundraiser for Roberts in Wichita, Kan., next Monday.

His visit will follow visits from both former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who are hitting the state for Roberts this week.

{mosads}And Bush is one of a handful of potential 2016 presidential contenders planning visits to the state for Roberts. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) are both scheduled to appear in the state for Roberts in October, during the final stretch of his battle with Independent Greg Orman.

Roberts has emerged as this cycle’s most surprisingly vulnerable incumbent, after a bruising primary fight left him struggling to mend fences with disaffected conservatives while also trying to appeal to moderates. He’s faced continued scrutiny over whether he actually lives in Kansas, after it was revealed he rents out the home he owns in the state and infrequently visits Kansas.
