The deep-pocketed EMILY's List is endorsing Georgia Senate candidate Michelle Nunn (D), giving her a potentially major fundraising boost in the open-seat race.

"Not only will she be a great senator for the people of Georgia, but she will also be the first woman senator elected from the Peach State — if we get behind her today," the group says in an email set to go out to its supporters.

The organization backs female Democrats who support abortion rights, and its powerful national fundraising network can give candidates a major boost.

The race could shape up up to be a competitive one despite the state's conservative lean.

Georgia Republicans have a crowded field on their hands, with a few flawed candidates running for the seat that could make the race much more competitive if they're the nominee — something EMILY's List is quick to point out.

"If you're looking for the next Todd Akin, Georgia's the place," the email alleges.

Nunn, the daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Ga.) who until recently ran an international volunteer service organization, is being touted by Democrats as a top recruit and has no primary opponent, allowing her to frame herself as a centrist.
