Rep. Matt SalmonMatthew (Matt) James SalmonArizona voters like Kyl but few think he'll stick around Former Sen. Jon Kyl to replace McCain in Senate Arizona governor faces pressure over McCain replacement MORE (R-Ariz.) said Friday that President Obama's executive actions on immigration would be an impeachable offense.

Salmon noted that conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer has already made that point.

Asked if he thought it would be an impeachable offense, he said: “Well Charles Krauthammer was asked that same question I think, just recently on one of the news programs, and I have to agree with him, of course it would be.”

“But committing an impeachable offense and getting the two-thirds in the Senate to convict are two different stories,” he added. “So, I mean, we have to play the hand that we are dealt right now.”

Salmon made the remarks on Newsmax TV on Friday. They were first flagged by BuzzFeed.

Salmon has circulated a letter calling for language to be included in an appropriations bill blocking funding from immigration actions.

Another Republican lawmaker, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), has also raised the prospect of impeachment over immigration action by Obama.
