Biden to speak at vigil for fallen officers
Vice President Biden will speak at a Thursday vigil for the three Louisiana police officers killed in an ambush earlier this month, his office announced.
Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will attend the vigil in the Baton Rouge Healing Place Church. The second couple will spend the afternoon meeting with the families of the fallen officers as well as survivors of the shooting.
The officers died on July 17 when they responded to a former Marine walking down a street with a long gun. The resulting shooting came just 10 days after five officers in Dallas were ambushed and killed by a lone gunman while protecting those protesting recent officer-involved shootings of black men in Baton Rouge, La., and Minnesota.
The vice president is no stranger to loss. He lost his first wife and 1-year-old daughter in a car crash in 1972 and lost his son Beau to cancer last year.
