Police officer injured in shooting throws first pitch at Congressional Baseball Game


David Bailey, one of the Capitol Hill police officers injured in the Alexandria, Va., shooting Wednesday, surprised the crowd at the Congressional Baseball Game Thursday when he came out onto the field to throw out the first pitch.

Bailey appeared using crutches and threw out the first pitch with baseball legend Joe Torre.

{mosads}House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), and four others, including Bailey, were injured during a shooting at a practice for the game on Wednesday. Scalise has undergone three surgeries since the shooting. The shooter died from his injuries.

Bailey’s surprise appearance was an emotional moment for many in the crowd who took to Twitter to share about the experience.
