Waters to Trump: Only ‘weak,’ ‘impotent’ leader focused on attacking press

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) slammed President Trump on Thursday after the president attacked CNN and the news media during a news conference overseas on his trip to Europe.
Waters blasted Trump for his repeated attacks on the press and former President Obama while in Poland, saying that “only a weak & impotent leader” would focus on attacking them instead of America’s enemies.
“Only a weak & impotent leader would spend more time attacking his predecessor & the free press than those in the world truly threatening US,” Waters, a vocal Trump critic, wrote on Twitter.

During a news conference in Poland, Trump stepped up his attacks against CNN.
“They have been fake news for a long time,” Trump said Thursday.
“They’ve been covering me in a very dishonest way. … What CNN, and others, NBC is equally is bad, despite the fact that I made them a fortune with ‘The Apprentice,’ but they forgot that,” Trump said.
He went on to praise the virtues of a free press and attack “fake news.”
“What we want to see in the United States is honest, beautiful, free, but honest, press. We want to see fair press; I think it’s a very important thing,” Trump said.
“We don’t want fake news. And by the way, not everybody is fake news. But we don’t want fake news. Bad thing. Very bad for our country.”
