Trump: ‘No second thoughts’ on DACA

President Trump said on Wednesday that he has “no second thoughts” about his decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which shields young immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children from deportation.

Trump’s response to a reporter’s question on Wednesday came just hours after he said in a tweet late Tuesday that he would “revisit the issue” if Congress fails to act within six months.

“Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they can’t, I will revisit this issue!” Trump said.

{mosads}His tweet led some lawmakers and longtime critics of the program to believe Trump’s decision to rescind the program was halfhearted.

When asked on Wednesday if he believes Congress will be able to pass legislation regarding the program, Trump said, “I hope they do. I certainly hope they do.”

Nearly 800,000 immigrants who were brought illegally to the U.S. as children are protected under the Obama-era program. Many of them are now young adults.
