The gunman responsible for the deadly Las Vegas mass shooting last October appeared to send emails about bump stocks months before killing 58 people and wounding over 500 others at a country music festival, new court documents released Friday show.
Over 300 pages of search warrants about the investigation were unsealed by a judge on Friday, CNN reports, showing an email account tied to gunman Stephen Paddock sent messages two months before the shooting to an unknown person about the accessory thought to have been used in the attack.
One message sent to the account connected to "Steve P" said "Try an ar before u buy. We have huge selection. Located in the las vegas area," the documents state.
"We have a wide variety of optics and ammunition to try," another email sent the same day said. One email sent to the account suggested Paddock try a bump stock with a 100-round magazine "for a thrill," according to CNN.
Investigators are unsure whether Paddock was communicating with someone else or to another email account that he controlled. An FBI investigator reportedly said in one of the documents that "investigators need to determine who was communicating with him about weapons that were used in the attack."
Officials say Paddock used the bump stocks, an after-market weapon accessory, along with AR-15-style rifles to quickly fire thousands of rounds at concertgoers from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
