New York Post to Trump: 'Please act' on gun control

The hometown paper for Trump, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch and endorsed Trump's presidential bid, released its Friday cover story calling on the president to "please act" on guns, featuring grieving students following Wednesday's shooting.

"Mr. President, please act," the cover says in a note from its editorial board. "We need sensible gun control to help stop the slaughter."


Trump on Thursday announced he would visit the the high school in Parkland, Fla., where a 19-year-old former student allegedly opened fire the previous day, killing 17 students and faculty and injuring more than a dozen others.

While Trump expressed his condolences for those affected by the shooting and said he would "tackle the difficult issue of mental health," he has yet to weigh in on the calls for gun control from members of the local community and Democratic lawmakers.

"President Trump, please do something. Do something, action," one mother said in a national television interview on Thursday. "We need it now. These kids need safety now."

The Post's rival paper, The New York Daily News, has lashed out after the shooting, calling attention to GOP lawmakers who have taken campaign donations from gun rights lobbyists.
