Santorum wins support of Focus on the Family founder

James C. Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, a conservative evangelical Christian group, has endorsed Rick Santorum for president.

“He has pleaded with the nation and its leaders to come to the aid of marriages, parents, and their children. What a refreshing message,” Dobson said in a statement on Thursday.

{mosads}Dobson said Santorum’s foreign-policy experience was a big factor in winning his support. He served on the Armed Services Committee during his time in the Senate.

“While there are other GOP candidates who are worthy of our support, Sen. Santorum is the man of the hour,” Dobson continued. “His knowledge of international politics, especially Israel and the turmoil in the Middle East, is highly relevant to the dangerous world in which we live. This is why I am endorsing former Senator Rick Santorum for president of the United States, and urge my countrymen to join us in this campaign.”

Dobson’s support comes a few days after a meeting of more than 100 social conservatives in Texas to decide on backing a candidate. The majority decided to back Santorum.

During Saturday’s NFL playoff game, Focus on the Family aired an anti-abortion ad featuring Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.
