Santorum: ‘Absolutely’ no need for national race conference after Trayvon Martin shooting

{mosads}A CNN poll released Monday found that more than a third of Americans said they have been paying a “great deal” of attention to the shooting, while nearly seven in 10 say they have been paying at least “some” attention to the case.

Outrage over Martin’s death has drawn protests across the country and reignited discussion of gun laws and race relations in the United States.

Santorum also argued that needing nearly a three-quarters of remaining delegates to secure the GOP nomination wasn’t relevant to his perseverance in the nomination battle. The former senator went on to dispute the Romney campaign’s characterization of the state of the delegate hunt.

“The delegate math is just garbage,” Santorum said. “We put out our own calculus, which actually reflects what’s going in the states, not this Romney math—which is simply wrong. It way overstates Governor Romney’s commitments and the delegates he won. And it way understates not just mine but everyone else’s in the campaign. We’ve given that to reporters—we’ll be walking through the details this week—state, by state, by state, on why this math is simply wrong.”
