Former CIA Director Michael Hayden said that Iran’s pursuit of nuclear materials has worsened to the extent that he can see how a future attack on the country by the U.S. military could be justifiable.
“My personal view is that Iran left to its own devices will get itself to that step right below a nuclear weapon, that permanent breakout stage, so the needle isn’t quite in the red for the international community,” Hayden told Candy Crowley on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.
“And frankly that will be as destabilizing as their actually having a weapon.”
“The kinetic option was way down on the list,” he added. “In my personal thinking I’ve begun to consider that that may not be the worst of all possible outcomes.”
