Report: U-Haul truck holding equipment for Biden event stolen

A U-Haul truck containing equipment for a Vice President Biden campaign event was stolen in downtown Detroit Saturday night.

Secret Service spokesman Edward Donovan said the theft would not “affect the visit at all,” according to media reports.

“We would never compromise the security of a visit,” Donovan said.

{mosads}Reports said the agency had rented the truck to help move equipment. Agents left the vehicle in downtown Saturday evening and found it missing on Sunday.

Donovan said Detroit police were investigating the theft. “It’s a local matter at this point,” he said. “We’ll work with them.”

The vice president is scheduled to speak at a Labor Day campaign event in Detroit on Monday.

Biden and President Obama this week are making separate trips through a total of seven swing states before they arrive at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Biden campaigned in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin on Sunday. He is slated to address the Democratic convention on Thursday.
