{mosads}A fire and subsequent explosion there killed at least 14 people Thursday night, with hundreds more injured and buildings and homes in the nearby area left leveled.

Carney said Monday that authorities were continuing to investigate the cause of the explosion.

“The cause is still unknown, and it is still too early to point to specific violations if any,” Carney said.

The White House said Monday that President Obama had been in contact with both Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) and Tommy Muska, the mayor of West, Texas, to offer federal support to recovery efforts.

On Thursday, the president and first lady Michelle Obama will attend a memorial service for the victims of the explosion at Baylor University. Their attendance will follow the dedication of former President George W. Bush’s presidential library in Dallas; a White House official would not say on Monday whether Obama planned to speak at either event.
