Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) said it would be a "good thing" if Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned from Congress.
"It would be fine with me if he did," Pryor said, according to Arkansas's KUAR radio station.
Pryor said it was "ultimately" up to Weiner and his constituents and family to decide his future.
"I think at this point it would probably be a good thing if he would go ahead and resign," Pryor said.
Pryor is among the first Democrats to call for Weiner's (D-N.Y.) resignation in light of his admission that he sent a lewd tweet of his waist area to a woman.
In a press conference Monday, Weiner admitted to sending the tweet and said he has had "inappropriate" online correspondence with six women over the last three years.
In response to Weiner's admission, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) called for an investigation of Weiner to see if the New York congressman violated House rules.
A few Democrats and some Republicans have called for Weiner to step down.
Weiner on Monday said he had no plans to resign.
