Cruz slams GOP bosses at Tea Party rally

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) joked Monday night that Republican leadership in Congress might be after him.

At a Tea Party event in Houston, he recalled a moment with his family in the car on their way to Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home in Virginia, last weekend.

{mosads}His daughters were discussing what they wanted to be when they grow up, Cruz said. Catherine said, “I want to work in the U.S. Senate,” Cruz said. Her sister, Caroline, replied, “Oh Catherine, that’s boring. We’re going to be in a rock band. … Besides, by then, Daddy will be dead anyway!”

“I kind of wondered if Caroline had been talking with Republican leadership in Washington … if she knew something I didn’t know,” Cruz said.

Many Republicans have openly expressed their frustration with the freshman senator from Texas, who was the driving force behind the GOP’s bid to bring down ObamaCare. Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.), for example, has repeatedly called Cruz a “fraud” in the last few weeks.

“I’ve spent the past month in Washington, D.C., and it is terrific to be back in America,” Cruz said at the rally.

{mosads}There are members of the media, he added, who’ve said some people in Washington are saying some “mean things.”

“Who cares?” Cruz said. “Because by the end of the day, I don’t work for the party bosses in Washington. I work for each and every one of you.”

He also touched on ObamaCare, which he called “the disaster, the train wreck, the nightmare.”

Cruz jabbed at’s technical glitches, saying Nigerian email scammers might be behind the messy rollout.

“They’ve been a lot less active lately because they’ve all been hired to run the ObamaCare websites.”

Cruz, however, admitted that he had failed in his attempt to defund the law.

“We didn’t ultimately win this battle,” said Cruz. “But listen, no one in this room started this fight thinking it would be easy. We all knew that if we took on the Washington establishment, the establishment would fight back.”
