Walsh, a fiery Tea Party conservative known for breaking with leadership on a number of issues, pledged that he will fight both Democrats and Republicans in order to avoid compromise.

“If we send typical Republicans to Washington, I can tell you, the typical Republicans will do what helped get us in this mess and they’ll forget they’re Republicans,” Walsh said, speaking at a town hall in the Illinois district where he plans to run against Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.) next year.

Hultgren’s campaign told the Chronicle that Walsh was “grandstanding,” an accusation Walsh has faced in the past.
