The response will be distributed to Spanish channels such as CNN in Spanish, Telemundo, Univison and others, the congresswoman’s office said.

"It is an honor to speak on the importance of an economy that works in our nation. Our friends and neighbors are looking for more jobs and more economic opportunity, not more regulations and taxes.

"The Republican message is simple: less wasted money, more jobs and smaller government would help the economy and increase jobs,” Ros-Lehtinen said in a statement, which was written in Spanish and translated into English.

Ros-Lehtinen was the first Cuban-American elected to Congress.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) was selected to give the Republican Party’s main response to the speech this year. She is the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) delivered the GOP response last year in both English and Spanish. Ros-Lehtinen previously delivered it in Spanish in 2011.
