President Obama on Friday congratulated the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Kings for their championship victories.

Obama called Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich to commend the team for clinching the NBA title, praising "selfless teamwork, clear focus, and steadfast determination" as key values that helped the team set a record score, according to a White House pool report.

The president called Popovich one of the nation's finest coaches and a role model for young men across the country.

Obama also called Kings captain Dustin Brown and congratulated him for the team's Stanley Cup win. He lauded the King's perseverance for pulling a "stunning comeback" and applauded Brown's performance in the Winter Olympics.

Both teams will be invited to the White House for a ceremony celebrating their victories.
