An American woman has died after being stabbed by a cloaked suspect in a women's restroom at a shopping mall in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, local police said.

The 37-year-old kindergarten teacher, identified only as A.B.R., died at a nearby hospital after a fight broke out in the restroom Monday afternoon, according to police, who are investigating potential motives. She is also the mother of 11-year-old twins, who were in police protection Tuesday.

The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday confirmed that a U.S. citizen was killed in the public bathroom at the mall on Reem Island, and said it was working with authorities to get more information.

Police on Wednesday released surveillance video of the alleged attacker, clad in all black, entering the building. Later it shows the individual rushing toward an elevator, while others keep their distance, and then fleeing through the same glass doors.

Witnesses said the suspect wore a cloak, black gloves and niqab, a face covering typically worn by Muslim women, according to police.

“The Abu Dhabi Police will spare no effort in order to unveil this heinous crime and bring the culprit to justice,” Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, head of Abu Dhabi Police's Criminal Investigation Department, said in comments posted to the police's official website.

The U.S. Embassy suggested Americans follow personal security practices such as avoiding large crowds or gatherings of unknown origin and minimizing one's profile in public.

The United Arab Emirates is one of several Arab nations that have joined U.S.-led airstrikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Bahrain.
