That's far better than for President Obama; 51 percent said he was on the "nice" list this year, but 49 percent said the president ranked as "naughty."

The poll also found that a plurality of Americans — 47 percent — believe that there is a war on Christmas intended to secularize the holiday season. Four in 10 Americans say no such effort exists.

The poll, released Monday, included a sample of 36 percent Democrats, 36 percent Republicans, and 28 percent independents. The majority — 68 percent — identified as Christian, and 87 percent said they would be celebrating Christmas. The margin of error for the poll was 4.4 percent.
