Kelly was commenting on a tweet Trump shared comparing his wife, Melania, a former model, to Cruz's wife, with the tweet saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words."

It came on the heels of Trump threatening to "spill the beans" on Cruz's wife following an ad from an anti-Trump group that featured Melania posing nude.

The Texas senator has pointed out that he has nothing to do with the group or its ad and slammed Trump for going after his wife, suggesting the attack was indicative of Trump's character.

"Donald, real men don't attack women. Your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life," Cruz responded around midnight Wednesday to Trump's image of his wife.

Heidi Cruz herself blasted Trump's initial threat against her, telling reporters on the campaign trail, "Most of the things Donald Trump says have no basis in reality."

Trump has shown little interest in scaling back his rhetoric against the star anchor, who called out the GOP candidate's past remarks on women at a televised debate in August, spurring months of feuding and subsequent criticism of Trump.

Over the weekend, Trump labeled the anchor as "crazy" after exchanging competing explanations for her show's ratings. That came a day after Fox News slammed Trump's "sick obsession" with the anchor.
