Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) sustained “extensive second- and third-degree burns” on his legs and feet and may miss the Republican National Convention next week, The Associated Press reported Sunday.

{mosads}A spokesman said Abbott was injured Thursday in Jackson Hole, Wyo., in an accident involving hot water. Abbott held a press conference Friday in Dallas after a gunman killed five police officers on Thursday night. He did not disclose his injury at the time.

Spokesman Matt Hirsch said Abbott’s legs were wrapped but covered by pants.

Abbott was scheduled to lead Texas’s delegation at the Republican convention in Cleveland next week, but his attendance is now “day-to-day,” Hirsch said.

Abbott has used a wheelchair since he was paralyzed in 1984 when a tree fell on him while jogging, paralyzing him below the waist.
