Kerry reportedly meets first with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, according to the Associated Press, to discuss the challenges of terrorism in the region, particularly within South Sudan, and in Somalia, where the extremist group al-Shabab remains a deadly problem.
The secretary of State then heads to Nigeria to meet President Muhammadu Buhari, and is scheduled to spend Tuesday and Wednesday in the continent's most populous country, according to the AP.
An especially concerning extremist group terrorizing Nigeria is Boko Haram — the outfit that kidnapped nearly 300 girls two years ago.
Following his time in Nigeria, Kerry is scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia to discuss the conflict in Yemen.
The talks Kerry will join will include "Saudi leaders, counterparts from Britain and in the regional Gulf Cooperation Council and the U.N. special envoy for Yemen,” according to the AP.
