The one-hour event on Sept. 7 at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York will be the first to host both Trump and Clinton.

The candidates will appear back to back during the event.

According to the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, which is hosting the event, each will take questions on national security, military affairs and veterans issues from Lauer and an audience made up of military veterans and active service members.

Lauer has been a co-host of the "Today" show for the past 19 years.
