"This is a giant criminal enterprise disguised as a foundation and disguised as a campaign," Gingrich said on Fox News.

"This is a level of corruption that permeates the federal government. This is a level of corruption that you find in the Veterans [Health] Administration, you find in the FBI now. [James] Comey has become a director who is corrupting the system and you can just tell."

The former speaker often accuses Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, of corruption.

A report Monday said Gingrich played a previously undisclosed role in encouraging a conservative watchdog organization to investigate whether Clinton's private email system had ever been hacked.

According to notes from the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s email system, which she used during her time as secretary of State, Gingrich served as a middleman to help an unidentified Senate staffer connect with the watchdog group Judicial Watch to test Clinton’s setup.
