“Trump is done,” Jim Dornan told Politico.
Dornan, who advised Trump in the preparatory stages of his campaign, said the Republican nominee likely has no chance in the remaining weeks leading up to the general election.
“Barring something completely out of the blue, like Hillary being involved in a murder, I don’t see how he wins.”
Trump is trailing his Democratic rival both nationally and in most battleground states.
According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, Clinton has a 5.8-point lead over her Republican rival, 45 to 39.2 percent.
The Democratic nominee is also competitive in some traditionally red states.
According to FiveThirtyEight's polls-plus forecast, Clinton has an 83.9 percent chance of winning the election. The forecast predicts the Democratic nominee will get 327.5 electoral votes, compared to Trump's 209.7.
On Sunday, Republican strategist Karl Rove made similar comments, saying he doesn't see the Trump winning the presidential election.
Democratic strategist David Axelrod said he doesn't know a strategist on either side who privately thinks Trump is going to win the White House.
