“I think it’s difficult to do,” he told host Chris Wallace on Fox News’s “Fox News Sunday." "The first thing you have to do is protect our border.”


McCarthy said Trump’s pledge to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, meanwhile, could be either physical or “virtual.”

“You have to secure the southern border,” he said. "I think that’s very doable and one of the things that has to be done. I believe you have to have security all the way through.”

Trump repeatedly vowed to deport the nation’s undocumented immigrants during his White House run.

The Republican has also frequently promised that Mexico will pay for a wall along the southern border.
