Former Bush spokesman on Trump's Taiwan call: 'China will go nuts'

Former George W. Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer tweeted that "China will go nuts" after President-elect Donald TrumpDonald TrumpTexas announces election audit in four counties after Trump demand Schumer sets Monday showdown on debt ceiling-government funding bill Pennsylvania AG sues to block GOP subpoenas in election probe MORE made a historic phone call to Taiwan on Friday.

"Uh-oh. I wasn't even allowed to refer to the gvt 'of' Taiwan. (I could say gvt "on" Taiwan.) China will go nuts," Fleischer tweeted.

But Fleischer said he isn't opposed to the move, as long as Trump fully thought it through.


Trump’s transition team confirmed late Friday that Trump had a conversation with Taiwan's president, a move that could anger the Chinese government and strain geopolitical relations between the two superpowers.

The two leaders “noted the close economic, political, and security ties exists between Taiwan and the United States,” according to a statement from Trump’s team.

Since 1979, no U.S. president or president-elect has had a conversation with Taiwan's leader.
