One of President Obama top advisers touted the president’s record as free of controversy and scandal on Sunday, as he nears the end of his second term.
“The president prides himself on the fact that his administration hasn’t had a scandal and he hasn’t done something to embarrass himself,” Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett said on CNN on Sunday, as reported by the New York Post.
“That’s because that’s who he is — that’s who they are — and I think that’s what really resonates with the American people,” Jarrett added.
Jarrett’s comments were met with criticism, the Post reported.
Tom Fitton, executive director of a watchdog group that has filed several lawsuits targeting the Obama administration, called her comments “delusional.”
“The Obama administration has a scandal rap sheet longer than my arm,” Fitton said. “Between just the IRS abuses, Benghazi, and the Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonThe Hill's Morning Report - Presented by Facebook - Democrats see victory in a voting rights defeat Left laughs off floated changes to 2024 ticket A year into his presidency, Biden is polling at an all-time low MORE scandals, this administration was even more corrupt than Nixon’s.”
Americans had fluctuating feelings about Obama during his presidency that rose and fell with his accomplishments.
Some point to the Benghazi, Libya, attacks as one of the Obama administration's failings. A 800-page report placed blame on Hillary Clinton, Obama’s secretary of State at the time, for the 2012 attacks.
The attacks killed Ambassador Chris Stevens, a state department official and two former Navy SEALs.
